The Project

Situated between Cambridge and Huntingdon on the former RAF Oakington base, the new town of Northstowe will be the largest new settlement in the UK for 50 years once complete in 2024. Covering the size of 650 football pitches, the development will house over 24,000 people in 10,000 new homes.

Our Work

Toppesfield started their £5 million scheme of works in early 2019 and the scheme will run for 13 months. During this time Toppesfield will lay nearly 70,000 tonnes of material, having laid 31,000 tonnes thus far. The scheme includes surfacing the new 2km dual carriageway, which is a vital part of the new town’s infrastructure, linking it to the upgraded A14. This will also see Toppesfield deliver all associated carriageways, cycleways and footpath works. In addition, Toppesfield will also be surfacing the new link between Northstowe and Cambridge’s guided busway.

Working collaboratively with Sisk and Cambridgeshire County Council, Toppesfield’s skilled team are delivering the works in accordance with detailed material specifications, including delivering some of the works with Cambridgeshire County Council’s bespoke surface course (CASC+) in addition to coloured asphalt and Heritage surface course.
