The Project

The M25 is the busiest and one of the most important motorways in the UK, linking a number of strategic roads in the south.

Working with their colleagues, FM Conway and valued client Milestone Infrastructure, Toppesfield were the first contractor in the UK to lay Cl941 DEA (Durable Enhanced Asphalt) on the M25 network.

Our Work

Working on behalf of client Milestone Infrastructure, Toppesfield were the first contractor in the UK to lay Cl941 DEA on the M25. Using their integrated paver which ensures 100% bond coat coverage, zero pickup and excellent adhesion between layers, the DEA material offers a more durable and sustainable approach to the heavily trafficked M25 network.

To provide a more sustainable approach and further reduce the material’s carbon footprint, trials for both a low-temperature and a 10% RAP (Recycled Asphalt Pavement) version of CL941 DEA material were also undertaken.

In order to ensure efficiency and provide a substantial cost saving to their client Toppesfield worked collaboratively with Milestone Infrastructure and FM Conway to undertake the material trial prior to an established shift on the M25.

Further testing will be undertaken by FM Conway’s laboratory with a view to undertake a site trial later this year.
