Project:
Gatwick Northern Runway

Client:
Dyer & Butler

Sector:
Aviation

Completion:
2022

The Project

Gatwick is a major international airport near Crawley, West Sussex, England. Due to the Airports heavy traffic it is vital the runways are maintained.

Toppesfield were contracted to complete surfacing work on Gatwick Airfield after several patches of the Northern runway were identified as failing.

Our Work

Working on behalf of client Dyer & Butler, Toppesfield completed the works over three phases, using materials that comply with Gatwick specifications. The project included the delivery of a Stone Mastic Asphalt (SMA) Surface Course along with a Polymer Modified Binder, helping increase the aggregate’s durability and strength allowing for the use of aircrafts.

Working collaboratively with the client works were carefully planned to be delivered against night time access restrictions. The project required communication from all parties to ensure on boarding protocols were complete before works began.

Restriction on the Plant’s capacity also saw Toppesfield carefully plan and schedule their delivery wagons to ensure material delays didn’t affect their delivery time.
