Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Trainee QS who will work alongside and support our dynamic Commercial team, you will benefit from working within a supportive learning environment ensuring your personal development and opportunity to progress.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Managing QS you will fulfil a range of duties including: –

  • Assisting the Managing QS with preparation, maintaining and process financial and project transactions
  • Assisting in compiling all necessary reports and schedules as required, undertake all general commercial administrative duties, including filing, emails, chasing down emails and phone calls
  • Manage and analyse project variations, including any claims for lose and expense
  • Assist with carrying out interim valuations; value completed works and applying for payments
  • Assist in provide accurate, real time, monthly reports (Cost Value Reconciliations) and final outcome forecasts
  • Assist with analysis of project costs and preparation of monthly cost reports and commentary for any variance
  • Attendee meetings onsite or elsewhere with the Site Teams, Clients, Suppliers and other parties as required
  • Liaise with all levels of the construction and professional team, including clients.
  • Use systems and processes, allowing effective measurement of commercial performance
  • Support the Commercial and Sales team with admin tasks and ad-hoc duties


Whilst we do not desire the candidate to have previous experience, candidates are expected to have some knowledge of the role of a QS, an analytical mind and an interest in the construction industry. Following recruitment further development training and opportunities will be available. This may include studying towards a degree at university which Toppesfield will sponsor.
