Job Description

To carry out the estimating process for new & ongoing works, preparing accurate cost estimates and rates for submission to customers. Responsibility for the implementation of commercial procedures and best practice on the project and play a lead role in the commercial success of the project

Key Responsibilities

  • Study of the commercial and technical requirements of the bid making due allowances for and managing those requirements that may place the company at risk or provide commercial opportunities.
  • Carrying out and organising appropriate staff to conduct site visits to prospective and current sites to assess work methods and possible challenges or opportunities.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of subcontractors and ensuring that estimates are based upon approved and competent suppliers
  • Maintaining an up to date resource database to ensure estimates are accurate.
  • Acting as the customer contact during the bid process, updating the job file and responding to customer requests for information.
  • Negotiating prices and contract conditions with prospective clients at contract letting stage.
  • Liaising with other members of the bid team, such as the quality team, to ensure that the bid addresses all issues and the estimate is robust.
  • Ensuring subcontract and key supply orders are issued and agreed in accordance with the terms of the main contract and prior to the sub-contractor’s commencement.
  • Valuing subcontractor’s contract and variation works on an interim basis, issuing Notice of Payment details and, where appropriate, withholding notices.
  • Securing the release of retentions and Performance Bonds at Practical Completion and Final Certificate.
  • Ensuring the use of the correct method of measurement.
  • Ensuring company’s position on onerous terms and conditions is maintained.
  • Identifying, and bringing to the attention of commercial manager, onerous terms and seeking directions
    for dealing with them.
  • Attending commercial and site progress meetings.
  • Providing performance feedback reports to Technical Services upon project completion.
  • Providing contract feedback within four weeks of project completion.
  • Ensuring clear and concise records are maintained.
  • Ensuring accurate final margin forecasts and any adverse trends are advised in good time.
