Role Description

 

As the HGV/LGV Driver Trainer, you will report to the National Logistics Manager to fulfil a range of duties including:

 

Key Responsibilities:

Core Role – Operations

  • First point of contact for all driver related queries. See below for escalation.
  • Escalating issues raised from the driver team to the relevant logistics or fleet manager for resolution.
  • To implement all company procedures relevant to the HGV/LGV driver trainer role.
  • Maintain a strategic overview of company driver training needs and liaise with Managers and Training and Recruitment coordinator to plan and produce a course catalogue and digital learning solutions, to include driver CPC, FORS etc. (Videos, e-Learning, user guides, webcasts, gamification, animation).  Ensure that training solutions take account of employees individual learning needs.
  • Additional training with Drivers on vehicle checks, company processes, near hit reporting, infringements.
  • Have a good understanding of legal compliance, driver’s hours, WTD’s, Domestic Rules.
  • Attend Driver Interviews.
  • Attend HGV Driver Inductions.
  • Ensure that all driver training meets the required standards (external/internal).
  • Complete a driver competence assessment for all new drivers before they are allowed to operate company vehicles will also be required to arrange Plant loading training.
  • In collaboration with the SHEQ Administrator and Fleet Administrator ensure that the that all driver skills are kept up to date and carryout quarterly audits of the training matrix. CPC, ADR DG, HIAB, FORS etc.
  • Identify and manage driver training suppliers to ensure they provide high quality and cost-effective education solutions to company employees.
  • Maintain the company Fleet Operators Recognition scheme accreditation (FORS).
  • Collaborate with the SHEQ team to ensure that driver policies and procedures meet required legislation and company standards.
  • When required support accident investigations in conjunction with the SHEQ Team and Fleet team identify immediate cause, root cause and appropriate corrective actions.
  • Travel and overnight stays will be required as and when necessary.

Additional responsibilities

Health &Safety

  • Carryout Safety audits, gate audits, vehicle audits (inc Dangerous Goods) and as required, create actions and timelines for completion, and ensure the actions have been closed.
  • Challenge all Unsafe Acts and Conditions and agree corrective actions – escalate as required.
  • Report Accidents, Incidents via Reflow and notify the SHEQ dept and Fleet Manager via phone.
  • Support accident investigations to establish root cause as required in the Accident Reporting and Investigation Procedure and attend incident review meetings where appropriate.
  • Implement all the Company’s Safety Health Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Policies and Standards

People

  • Complete an annual driver competence assessment for all HGV/LGV drivers and assist the Logistics Manager with the development of improvement plans, which enable drivers to maintain and improve their skills and knowledge.

Skills:

The successful Candidate shall be:

  • Computer literate
  • Competent in training course design and delivery
  • Company Induction
  • Experience of road incident investigation
  • Knowledge of UK vehicle and driver compliance standards (e.g. CPC, DVSA, DVLA etc)
  • Policy and Procedure awareness training.
  • Knowledge of the UK Driving Regulations
  • Knowledge of The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS)
  • Advanced Driving Skills course (IMA or equivalent (desirable)
  • Clean UK Driving Licence to include: – A, B, B+E, C1, C1+E, C, C+E, (Must have experience of driving C+E)
  • NPORS (load and secure) or equivalent (desirable)
  • Due to drivers’ shifts the role will require some flexibility and early or late shift patterns will be needed as and when required.
